PaIntEd PaPeR fRuiT bOwLs

This project turned out so bright and colorful!  We used paper that we had painted in previous classes.  We cut out shapes to look like fruit and a basket, arranged them and glued them down.  Sort of a collage.  It was fun to see what kinds of fruit they tried to make.  We talked a little bit about Eric Carle and his style.  He too uses painted paper.

It is funny how every week whatever project we do was their favorite.  This one was surely a hit.  My own kids kept saying through the night after the class at random times how much they loved it.

Printmaking can be done with anything that has a fun pattern or texture.  What kid doesn't loooove bubble wrap?! This was a fun item to use to make our prints.

This would make a fun wrapping paper for a friend!
Each child's project turned out unique like their personalities.

Love Bots

Last week we designed robots...and put some hearts on them for a little Valentine flare.  Line drawing is so so so important in art.  I told the kids its like learning to read...you have to learn the letters before you can put them together to make words.  Its the same with drawing...one must master lines to be a good drawer.  Every week I have them work on lines.  Practice making lines and eventually those lines turn into drawings and then those drawings start to tell stories and become masterpieces.

Here, Near and Far

In Spanish it is aqui, alli, alla.  This lesson was taught to me by a recent online course I took for art teachers.  It went over great just like my teacher said it would...so so well.  It was a great way to teach kids to use the whole paper to create depth and perspective.  Kids had fun designing their own backgrounds and color schemes.  I was pleased as punch with the results of their projects.

Love Birds

This is a fun project.  It teaches symmetry and experimentation with water colors.  We used crayons and salt to to get different looks with the water color.  Happy Valentines Day!

Elf Legs

There has been so much talk this year of that little mysterious Elf on the Shelf.  This project was totally appropriate.  It taught symmetry, design, and straight and fragmented lines.  I love love loved the way they turned out.  We used what seems to be the favorite discipline of the budding young artists in my classes...sharpies.  Lots of colorful fun sharpies.

Christmas Arty Party

We made fancy snowflakes, drew a wintery masterpiece, and sipped hot chocolate.  It was so perfect.  These little kids have been so fun to teach art to!  I love them to pieces.  I am so thankful to the ones who have supported my little Art School! Thank you, thank you thank you!!!  Merry Christmas

Some Line Drawing Turkeys

Painted Paper Silhouettes

This was one of my favorite projects we did last session.  We did it just before Halloween.  I taught the kids how to make painted paper and then they drew their haunted house scenes on the dried paper with sharpies.  They turned out beautiful!
